Easter Egg Hunt Outside- Stories of Remember When
May 4, 2022 - Written by Dorothy "Louise" Beasley
Remember when our kids were little and we hid Easter Eggs outside and the dog would go around behind me, before the kids, find the chocolate covered eggs in wrappers and eat the eggs? Or, it was too cold outside to hide eggs and we would then hide the real hard boiled coloured eggs and then some didn't get found? Often found the odd one by smell a few weeks later.
Wanting to touch base with a few other women to write stories of their lives as Ranch-women in this century. I have a few questions to ask, different than originally as my book is coming along. Purpose is to compare the lives and relationships of women from the 1880s up until the present day ranch-women, plus come full circle to the modern day women and families who are taking up homesteading, as they see it is a better way of life for their children.
With this in mind, asking all ranch-women to write a short story of 1500 words about why you love being a ranch-woman, what chores and tasks you do, do you work with your husband/partner outside of the ranch-house, as well as inside? What conditions affect you the most when helping on the ranch? The weather? Helping outside? Cooking for ranch help, raising the children, cleaning house, planting and harvesting the garden? Working away from the ranch as well as at home? Do you enjoy working outside with the animals, with or without your partner/children? What do you think about being a Steward for the land, the people who live on the prairies, the ranching way of life, and the community support plus the benefits of raising children on the ranch?
Ask questions if you want more information, otherwise would love to receive ranch-women's stories from second, third and fourth generations of ranch-women, plus any women who have brought their families back to rural areas to raise animals, join 4-H, have chickens and other chores for their children and themselves to do.
There is a difference between women/families who have taken up modern day homesteading versus ranch men and women. What do you feel are the similarities between the pioneer women from generation to generation all the way up to women homesteaders of the modern world?
